Get to know Dr. Crystal
With more than a decade of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Crystal R. Currie has worked in high-impact settings including detention centers, residential treatment programs, and community organizations focused on family reunification. Her work spans both clinical and organizational environments, with collaborations that include Lincoln Financial, the American Counseling Association, the National Association of Public Defense, Mental Health America, and the International Congress on Interpersonal Rejection & Acceptance.
Through this work, Dr. Currie observed consistent patterns within individuals and organizations: heavy emotional burdens were often masked by high performance. Many challenges were not rooted in a lack of skill or effort, but in unresolved trauma shaping communication, decision-making, and culture beneath the surface.
This insight became the foundation of her Heal • Become • Lead framework.
What began as clinical insight has evolved into a structured organizational engagement model used to stabilize teams, support digital transformation, and strengthen leadership capacity in high-pressure environments.
A two-time author of the Intentional Forgiveness series, Dr. Currie integrates clinical expertise with practical application to support emotional healing and sustainable leadership. Her work helps individuals and leaders heal underlying toxic patterns, develop emotional regulation, and lead with clarity.
Dr. Currie holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She remains committed to advancing trauma-informed practice through research, education, and real-world leadership application.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Currie enjoys time with her husband, Donald, and their children, Alaina and Andrew. Her work is driven by a simple belief: when individuals heal their communities change.
